Job Description
Position: Resident Engineer
Location: Oxford
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 + £5k+ annual shift allowance
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Holidays: 25 days + additional rest days due to shift pattern
Team Setup: Always working in pairs – no lone working
I am currently recruiting on behalf of a global forklift manufacturer for a Resident Engineer position based in Oxford. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established engineering team supporting a major automotive site.
Here are the key details:
About the Role:
• Preventative maintenance and breakdown repair of a wide range of MHE (Material Handling Equipment)
• Diagnostics and fault finding
• Reporting and parts ordering
• Working from a fully equipped on-site workshop, with access to parking, lockers, and kitchen facilities
Equipment You’ll Work On:
• Electric & Diesel Counterbalance
• Reach Trucks
• Tow Tractors
• Order Pickers (low & high level)
• Pyroban Trucks, Stringo (car movers), and more
Shift Pattern:
• Rotating between day and night shifts (10-hour days)
• Example: Week on A shift > 1 day off > Week on B shift > 7 days off > Week on E shift > 1 day off > Week on F shift > 9 days off
• Plus £5k+ annually)
What We’re Looking For:
• NVQ Level 2 or higher in Mechanical Engineering (Level 3 preferred)
• IT literate, proactive, and professional
• Experience with forklifts, plant, motor trade, or hydraulics/electrical systems is highly desirable
• Strong communication skills – this is a customer-facing role
